Class Matters

Empower Our Future, One Teen at a Time

Who do we help?

Class Matters provides in-person, out-of-school, virtual, and informal science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) enrichment programs that influence STEM access and identity for under-represented youth facing academic or behavioral challenges by hands-on skill development activities, peer-to-near peer mentor-driven academic support, and reflective character refinement. Our primary aim is to develop engaged scholars, skilled professionals, and servant leaders.

What they are learning:

We will always nurture a positive, enthusiastic atmosphere, which will foster mutual trust and respect among all stakeholders. Further, we will always operate with open agendas, positive interactions, and genuine motives.

We will always be honest and truthful in all relationships, respecting and relying on each others.

Passion for performance and a bias for action, creating real value for all stakeholders and leading the pace.

Seeking break through opportunity, taking risks, and initiating meaningful change

Showing concern and respect for all with whom we work, building collaborative relationships with the community, our customers, and business associates.

We will always do unto others as we would have them do unto us.

Class Matters and Mr.Lamkin has been basically a building block in the building of my character and maturing in to manhood. Mr.lamkin and class matters has leadership by grant me opportunity like internships, partnering with Restore OKC and OETA. Class Matters has supported me in the importance of my grades by offering tutoring and study plans. Thanks so much for everything you do Mr.Lamkin

Class Matters and Mr. Lamkin's commitment to his students is amazing and something rare in today's school systems! I have been able to witness firsthand the mentor ship, support, encouragement, and development that this program provides for it's students! Being a college student majoring in STEM, Class Matters provides a foundation of experience in teamwork, problem solving, and critical thinking that I wish I was provided with as a high school student. Class Matters is a great after school program with benefits that will help it's students beyond high school. I am a strong advocate for this program and it's work!

Class Matters under the guidance of Mr. Lamkin has truly been a premiere program for me. He not only teaches us about different facets of engineering but how to be a better person and be the best version of yourself. The environment he provides for students truly allows us to think outside the box and it pushes us to learn things about ourselves. This program is not just a something you do after school once a week, but it’s a family.

Class-Matters and Mr. Lamkin gave me a chance to gain knowledge about FTC. FTC ( First Tech Competition) is a smaller version of First Robotics and I would have never knew about it without Mr. Lamkin's help. Having the opportunity to work with him throughout the whole FTC process was amazing. He was more than a mentor, he was an inspiration. He helped and encourage me to follow my dreams and gave me advice to help me along the way. I am glad to meet a person like Mr. Lamkin and I am thankful for all the help.

I have been in Class Matters for two years and overall I have learned leadership skills and how to maintain my time and believe in myself. I now have an interest in STEM from the few programs we have done over the summer. I have learned how to actually engage and work with parents and there kids amd talk in front of a group of people. But personally I think kids are more engaged with out their parents, but overall teaching the kids and their parents about the engineering design process and building projects with them was a pretty engaging and learning experience.

Class Matters and Mr. Lamkin has taught me key characteristics, (like leadership for example) life skills (like respect and leadership), and it has bettered my confidence, attitude, and respect to others. This experience has also taught me about engineering and stem practices that I can use in my future profession.
